| Mode of action | Mesotrione acts by competitive inhibition of the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), a component of the biochemical pathway that converts tyrosine to plastoquinone and alpha-tocopherol. Terbuthylazine prevents the photosynthesis process through competitive inhibition, displacing plastoquinone from its binding site in photosystem II, limiting the nutrient resources of the pest and causing oxidative stress. Nicosulfuron inhibits the ALS (AHAS) enzyme, blocking the production of essential amino acids and thereby halting plant growth, causing stunting, chlorosis, and eventual death in susceptible weeds. |
